Friends of India

Holi

The festival was held on March 19 2022, after being postponed a year earlier. The venue was changed the day before as the original park booking was cancelled due to wet ground. The day began with drizzling rain. The volunteers set up the marquees, banners and chairs for the eventual arrival of the Minister of Multiculturalism Honourable Mark Coure. As the clock struck 10 am the volunteers commenced throwing colours at each other. The Minister arrived at 10:30am and shared a few words. Owing to prior engagement he left promising to return later. Slowly people began trickling in, buying colours and throwing it at others. There were fun activities such as a wet slide where children slid down. There were mud pot pinatas which were suspended from tree branches and people struck with sticks whilst climbing up on many people to reach it. Ten drummers played three different teams or tempos to which many of the festival revellers danced jubilantly. The Minister returned to have some colour thrown at him. There were 250 people in attendance despite the rain.
